Over the last two years we’ve pretty much learned to expect little hiccups in wedding plans. Changes in dates and venues, reduced numbers of guests… we’ve pretty much had it all, so it takes a lot to blindside us these days, but it does occasionally happen…

Kathryn and Chris had been due to get married on April 1st in Babel Rooftop at the gorgeous Bullitt Hotel in Belfast. Three days before their wedding, they turned on the TV to see Babel on the news, engulfed in flames.

It takes a special kind of reslience to power through something like that, but that is precisesly what they did. Aided and abetted by the wonderful Fleur Mellor and a bundle of bitchin’ suppliers, the wedding not only went ahead, but was one of the most beautiful and special we’ve had the pleasure to photograph.

In just two days, they turned their own house into the ceremony venue. The wee magicians from Floral Earth helped make an Ormeau Road living room look like the most perfect, intimate ceremony room. Tucked into a corner with her guitar, our amazingly talented pal Rachel Toman created the perfect vibe.

After Fleur’s fantastic Humanist Ceremony (hey Rachel, we saw you getting teary, don’t deny it) we walked over to Ormeau Park and found the most beautiful Cherry Blossom tree for a few quick photos before heading into cathedral quarter (the only part of the original plans that survived).

Determined that Kathryn and Chris deserved some kind of rooftop experience for their wedding day, we called our friend, the awesome Dee McAdams from Oh Yeah Music Centre, who sneaked us up to the roof of the building!

We can’t help but admire Kathryn and Chris’s resilience, humour and grace in all of this. In spite of everything though, I can’t imagine them redoing this day and having it any more perfect than it was. Sometimes the best plans are the ones you didn’t make.

Feel free to show them some love in the comments!
