Four years, three dates, two venues and two wonderful children later, Cara and Ashley finally did it. And, of course, it bucketed down all day long... but who cares about rain when you’ve got such love, relief and joy? We were so delighted for them as they finally got to say their vows in a beautiful humanist ceremony at Virginia Park Lodge in Cavan.

If you've been to a wedding in Northern Ireland, you'll probably be familiar with Ashley's work without even knowing it. He runs French Village Bakery, who when they're not running cafes and stocking shops with amazing baked goods, create some of the most spectacular and delicious wedding cakes we get to see doing our job. And while the cake they had at their own wedding was beautiful, they nearly didn't get around to an official cake cutting as they were so busy having the craic on the dancefloor. (Don’t worry - we didn’t leave without getting the photo!).

We loved the priorities in this wedding - for Cara and Ashley, it was all about family and friends. While rain stopped us from exploring the gorgeous grounds at Virginia Park Lodge as we'd have liked, we had fun finding little nooks inside and under cover. It helps having a venue that’s beautiful inside and out.

Like so many couples that had their wedding scuppered by Covid, this wasn't the day that Cara and Ashley originally planned. But having experienced the love, joy and craic of their wedding, I know they wouldn't trade this day for any other.
