Deci is a geek. Seriously, he loves all the camera geekery that I try my best to ignore. He was chuffed recently that a technical article he wrote on creative underexposure was picked up by respected photography websites Petapixel and Nikonrumors.
The technique, which we often use, involves deliberately underexposing an image to retain the highlights and then boosting the shadows to bring back detail. This means that we can quickly capture high contrast scenes and spectacular sunsets (see image below) without having to bring out obtrusive flash guns or cumbersome reflectors.
If you're a budding photographer you should check out the article - it gives a little insight into how we work and might open up some new creative avenues.
