We've often been asked if we're Newry wedding photographers as we photograph a lot of weddings in the area. While we're not from there, we love the people, the town (sorry, the CITY, we meant city) and the gorgeous countryside that surrounds it. But, in all our trips to the town (CITY, sorry...) we've not been to Flagstaff lodge. It's tucked away just off the A1 and is cosy and charming with great food. It's a great spot for a wedding, with the nearby Flagstaff Viewpoint providing a spectacular photographic background looking out onto Carlingford Lough.
Michelle and Stephen got married in the Church of the Sacred Heart on the edge of Newry. We've seen the distinctive spire of this church while zipping past on the dual carriageway but this was our first wedding there. It's a ridiculously gorgeous building, flooded with natural light.
The Irish weather did its usual mad thing; On a day when we were expecting rain, we instead got blistering sunshine as the storms circled Newry while rarely hitting it. And when we expected the hillside at flagstaff to be windy like the church, it was completely calm. Like, eerily so. This is the life of an Irish wedding photographer - you may as well give a cat some crayons and ask it to draw you a forecast than actually use any weather app.
Can we take a second to talk about how Michelle hiked around the hills of Newry in her wedding shoes, navigating brambles and nettles without missing a beat. This was hiking boots not heels territory, but she did it like a champion. I'm sure you'll agree the result was worth it though.
